Prospective Students

We are delighted that you are considering East Mississippi Community College for your post-secondary education. To help you navigate the admissions and enrollment process, we have created the following Admissions Checklist and helpful hints. If you need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to call Lion Central at 662.243.1920. We are here to guide you through this process and assist any way we can. 

 

1. Complete the electronic APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION.

  • High school students who are currently attending EMCC as a dual enrollment students must complete a new application if they intend to go to EMCC full-time upon high school graduation. 

 Submit official school transcripts. 

  • EMCC encourages the use of electronic transcript exchange. Prospective students should check with their high school or previous college(s) to see if they participate in an electronic transcript exchange program. Hardcopy transcripts may be mailed to the Office of Admissions at either campus location. See below for mailing addresses for each campus. 
  • Incoming high school students must request an official transcript from their high school indicating graduation date and GPA. 
  • GED completers must indicate GED on their Application for Admission. If the GED (or high school equivalency) was taken outside the state of MS, official scores should be sent directly from the out-of-state GED office.
  • Incoming college transfers must request official transcripts from all colleges attended to be sent to the EMCC Registrars Office. If you previously attended EMCC, we need official transcripts from any other colleges or universities attended since your last attendance at EMCC.  
  • Dual enrolled students who took classes from a college or university other than EMCC must request both their high school and college official transcripts be sent to the EMCC Registrars Office. 

Submit ACT scores. EMCC has waived the ACT score requirement for admissions purposes.

An ACT score will still be needed to be considered for ACT scholarships and correct Placement.
Superscores are not considered for Scholarship Qualifications.

  • A valid ACT score report can be sent to the Scooba Campus using code 2194 when you take the exam. Use code 2196 for the Golden Triangle campus. Prospective students who have already taken the ACT can obtain their ACT score reports at www.act.org.
  • Any prospective student who has not yet taken the ACT may elect to take the ACT Residual test. For more information please call the Scooba campus at 662-476-5048 and the Golden Triangle campus at 662-243-1903. 
  • Applicants may take the Accuplacer assessment in lieu of the ACT.

Once a prospective student has completed the EMCC Application for Admission and submitted an official transcript, he or she will receive notification of admission into EMCC. Please note that admission to the school is NOT the same thing as being enrolled at the school. Prospective students can attend a JourneyEAST orientation session to complete the process and officially enroll to be a student at EMCC. Students are encouraged to register early to reserve a spot in their desired program. 


 

2. Schedule your registration session and JourneyEAST Orientation.

East Mississippi Community College hosts a variety of JourneyEAST Orientations each semester you can schedule your JourneyEAST session HERE. Once admitted and registered for a JourneyEAST Orientation session, an adviser will reach out to you to begin pre-advising.  If you would like to make an appointment with an adviser you can do that HERE.

                      

3. Apply for financial aid:

  • To speak with a member of the EMCC Financial Aid Team, please visit Lion Central on either the Scooba or Golden Triangle campus.  The telephone numbers are 662.476.5079 (Scooba) and 662.243.1920 (Golden Triangle).

4.  Visit the Business Office to finalize your student account:

  • The Business Office will account for all financial aid you have been awarded and will tell you if you owe anything for your education. 
  • If you have an account balance, you must meet the minimum down payment requirement and sign a fee payment agreement prior to getting a student ID.
  •  You may also purchase a parking decal and make meal plan selections in the Business Office.

5. Visit your campus bookstore.  

    • You must have EMCC Student ID and a copy of your schedule to purchase books.
  • You may also purchase your books online at www.eastmsbookstore.com
    • If you need a book for an online class, you must have your student profile. (You may view and print your schedule and profile by visiting your LEO account)

6.  Complete the Housing Application to obtain a dorm room at the Scooba campus:
